Saskatchewan Celebrating Foster Families Month

01-Oct-2026 - Regina SK

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October as Foster Families Month to celebrate the many contributions of foster families across the province.

"Foster families make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth across Saskatchewan," Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. "Their compassion and willingness to provide safe and supportive homes help children and youth build stronger futures. We are grateful for everything they do and celebrate them this month."

Foster families play a vital role in supporting children and youth who are unable to remain safe with their families. When foster caregivers open their homes, they are providing stability, guidance and a sense of belonging during what can be a challenging time in a child or youth's life.

The government works closely with the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association (SFFA) to support foster families through training, advocacy and ongoing resources. Proclaiming October for Foster Families also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about fostering in Saskatchewan.

"Foster families make a difference every day, and much of what they do happens quietly, without recognition," Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said. "It's in everyday things, getting kids to school, sitting down for supper, being there through hard days and helping a child feel safe and supported. Foster Families Month gives us a chance to say thank you to foster families across Saskatchewan for their commitment they make to children and youth. The work they do matters, and so does the difference they make in a child's life."

Throughout October, appreciation events will be held in communities across Saskatchewan to celebrate foster families and recognize their contributions to children, youth and communities.
