P.R.I.D.E. Pre-Service
PRIDE is a licensed model of practice for the development and support of foster families.
The curriculum consists of nine three-hour sessions of group training.
It contains PRIDE books, Training Manuals and Assessment Tools, designed with the help of foster parents to strengthen the quality of care for children.
This training prepares prospective foster and adoptive families by combining a series of at-home consultation meetings with group training sessions. A mutual assessment/home study for readiness to foster or adopt is then completed.
Pre-service competencies are essential before a child is placed and are addressed in the Pre-service training (i.e. foster and adoptive parents must know the importance of promoting a child's positive sense of identity, history, culture and values to help develop self-esteem).
A mandatory three-hour Saskatchewan Aboriginal Cultural Component session as well as a 17-hour First Aid/CPR course are required training as part of the approval process.
